U Bicarbonate raises the pH in your blood, helping you train harder during interval and threshold sessions. The jar contains 250 capsules with 1g of bicarbonate per capsule. This provides approximately 12 doses for a person weighing 70kg (+/- 3 doses depending on body weight, see table below).
How does bicarbonate enhance your performance?
Our body maintains a pH of 7.4, while bicarbonate, which acts as a pH buffer, has a pH value of 8.3. Research shows that taking enough bicarbonate can increase your body's pH, providing you with extra capacity before muscle acidity hinders performance. This means you can sustain higher performance longer, whether at or above the threshold, or by pushing through that last minute of the final interval.
The previous issue was the gas formation that occurred when bicarbonate with a pH of 8.3 encountered the stomach's pH of 1.5. The substantial pH difference between bicarbonate and the stomach creates a strong chemical reaction when the alkaline substance meets a very acidic environment, leading to gas formation—not pleasant for the stomach.
Umara has resolved this by encapsulating the bicarbonate in special acid-resistant capsules that pass through the stomach, releasing bicarbonate only once they reach the small intestine, where it is absorbed into the bloodstream. Recommended intake based on body weight*
Take capsules amounting to 30% of your body weight (e.g., 60 kg = 18 capsules, 80 kg = 24). Consume half the capsules 2.5 hours before activity and the rest 1.5 hours before. The first dose should be taken with a meal, and each intake with 500 ml of fluid. Max two full doses per week.
