With JVM Gold and victory against the seniors in the World Triathlon Cup event in Bergen, Tilda Månsson has established herself as one of Sweden's future triathlon stars. We are therefore very proud to present Tilda as a new ambassador! We caught up with Tilda ahead of her base training.
Base training is starting now, what will you focus on this winter?
"It has gone very well and clearly exceeded expectations before the season. The season actually started quite heavy with 2 canceled races in March/April due to a stomach bacteria that completely sidelined me. But after that, it has gone very well with European Championships gold, JVM gold, and World Cup victory in Bergen as highlights. The World Cup win came as a bit of a shock for me since I didn't think I had the capacity for that yet, and it is probably my best race so far. However, I have one competition left, which is the World Championships series in Abu Dhabi on November 24, where I hope to do a good race too😃."
"I started my base training already at the end of the season as it has been a tumultuous season with a lot of mental impressions, so my coach and I decided to take a season break at the beginning of September after the last World Cup competition I did. Since base training started, the focus for me has been quite a lot on volume and a good amount of long thresholds. The plan for the winter is to build better endurance for Olympic distance in swimming as well as improve sprinting abilities to be better at the start. In cycling, the plan is to build more volume with longer long rides than before and also to enhance my threshold capacity through many sessions around LT2. For running, the plan is to continue as before but with a bit more volume and slightly longer long runs."

What is the goal for next year?
"The goal for next year is to perform well enough in the World Cups and World Championships so that I qualify for the Olympics. I hope to be able to challenge the very best like in Bergen, but I take nothing for granted."
How do you work with sports nutrition in your training and competing?
"For me, sports nutrition has become increasingly important lately, and today I couldn't manage without it. At the beginning of the year, it wasn't something I focused on much at all, but last spring I started using more and more carbohydrates, especially during my quality sessions, and it has really helped me to feel much fresher after these sessions and to perform them much better. Today I aim to consume about 90-100 grams of carbohydrates per hour during my harder sessions and about 60 grams per hour during easier sessions lasting over 1 hour. I mostly use sports drinks but supplement with gels, especially during running. During sprints on race day, I usually don’t use anything other than water, but during Olympic distances, I try to consume about 100 grams of carbohydrates during cycling."
Thank you Tilda and keep pushing hard with your training now! We are really looking forward to working with you in the future!
